nau
nauは、小林慶太朗による活動の総体として、2020年に設立された。写真、美術、化学、デザインを通じて得た知見を、モノ・コト・場へと編み直しながら制作を続けている。ブランディングからプロダクトデザイン、場づくりまでを横断的に扱う。「自身の知見を縄のように綯い、それを用いて人々の考えを綯う」という思いから、nauと名付けた。そうして綯われた思考の束は、新たな発見への入口となり、人々の好奇心を静かにひらいていく。
“考えは、一本の糸として始まる。 糸が集まることで、一本の紐となる。 そして、その紐が綯われることで、一本の縄になる。”
nau was established in 2020 as the totality of Keitaro Kobayashi’s activities. Drawing on insights gained through photography, art, chemistry, and design, it continues to reweave them into objects, experiences, and spaces. Its practice spans branding, product design, and placemaking, approaching them as interconnected forms of expression. The name nau comes from the Japanese verb meaning “to braid” or “to weave together.” It reflects the idea of braiding one’s knowledge and experiences, and through them, creating the conditions in which the thoughts of others may also be woven. In these braided relationships, new discoveries quietly emerge, and curiosity finds room to unfold.
“A thought may begin as a thread. Threads gathered together form a strand. And strands, braided together, become a rope.”

Keitaro Kobayashi
1991年神奈川県生まれ。東京農工大学大学院応用化学専攻修了。有機化学合成を専門として学び、その後12年間にわたり研究開発に従事する。ラボレベルでの研究から企画立案、量産製品化までを一貫して経験し、現在もコンサルタントとして化学に関わる。 一方で、研究を通じて物質へ向けてきた眼差しや、あたりまえを問い直す日々の態度は、作家としての実践とも地続きにある。2022年、自身のアトリエに暗室を設け、写真作品の制作を始める。2023年には初個展「Mutual Definitions／境界を綯う」（gallery kairai）を開催。以降、写真にとどまらず、絵画やオブジェなどへと表現を広げている。 2025年には静岡県浜松市にギャラリー「nau」を開廊し、自ら運営とキュレーションを行う。「作品を通して、ひとと作家の考えを綯う」という思いのもと、作品と鑑賞者が同じ地平に立ち、それぞれの思考が立ち上がるための場をひらいてきた。 2026年8月より活動の拠点を北海道天塩町へ移す。地域に息づく自然と文化に向き合いながら、それらと人とのあいだに新たな関係を結び直し、静かに好奇心のひらかれる場を探っている。
Born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1991, Keitaro Kobayashi completed his graduate studies in Applied Chemistry at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, specializing in organic synthesis. He then spent twelve years in research and development, working continuously from laboratory-scale research to project planning and the commercialization of mass-produced products. He continues to engage with chemistry as a consultant. At the same time, the gaze toward materials cultivated through scientific research and the everyday practice of questioning what is taken for granted remain inseparable from his artistic practice. In 2022, he established a darkroom in his studio and began producing photographic works. In 2023, he held his first solo exhibition, Mutual Definitions / Braiding Boundaries, at gallery kairai. Since then, his practice has expanded beyond photography to include painting and sculptural objects. In 2025, he founded and curated Gallery nau in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka. Guided by the idea of “braiding together the thoughts of artists and people through artworks,” he sought to create spaces where artworks and viewers stand on the same horizon, allowing each person’s thinking to quietly emerge. In August 2026, he relocated his practice to Teshio, Hokkaido. By engaging with the nature and culture rooted in the region, he continues to explore ways of renewing the relationships between people and place, opening spaces in which curiosity may quietly unfold.
