Artist Statement
私の根源には、「あたりまえを疑う」という態度がある。それは化学にも、デザインにも、制作にも通底している。 幼少期から化学に惹かれ、長く学び続けてきた。2018年に経験した不随意運動の病をきっかけに、「私の身体を動かしているものは何か」という問いが生まれた。 あたりまえを疑うと、それまで見えていなかった側面が静かに立ち上がってくる。むしろ、それらは従前からそこにありながら、意識の外に置かれていた事柄である。そのような発見が、私の好奇心を深く支えている。 私にとって、うつくしさとは態度のさきにある。ここでいう態度とは、対象への向き合いである。孤独であっても対象に向き合い続けること。答えがなくとも考え続けること。対象を所有や理解へと回収せず、対象として尊重すること。そのような関係のさきで、うつくしさは静かに立ち上がってくる。
At the root of my practice lies an attitude of questioning what is taken for granted. It runs through chemistry, design, and artistic practice alike. Drawn to chemistry from an early age, I have spent much of my life studying it. In 2018, after experiencing an involuntary movement disorder, a question arose within me: What is it that moves my body? When I question what is taken for granted, aspects that had previously gone unseen begin to quietly emerge. More precisely, they are things that have long existed, yet remained outside the field of awareness. Such discoveries deeply sustain my curiosity. For me, beauty lies beyond attitude. By attitude, I mean the way one stands before a subject: continuing to engage with it even in solitude; continuing to think even when no answer is available; and respecting it as a subject rather than reducing it to possession or understanding. Beyond such relationships, beauty quietly comes into being.
